Tot i que la paraula àtom en grec vol dir indivisible, avui sabem que els àtoms estan formats d’unes subpartícules més petites que s’anomenen :
Protons : es troben al nucli i tenen càrrega positiva
Neutrons : es troben al nucli i no tenen carrega elèctrica ( són neutres)
Electrons : es troben a l’escorça donant voltes al nucli i tenen càrrega negativa.
Els àtoms que formen els elements químics de la taula periòdica tenen el mateix número de protons que d’electrons ( i per tant tenen càrrega electrica total neutre).
L’Hidrogen és el numero 1 perquè té un sol protó i un sol electró.
L’Heli el 2 perquè té 2 protons i 2 electrons,
el Liti té 3 protons i 3 electrons … i així anar fent.

Although the Greek word atom means indivisible, we now know that atoms are made up of a smaller subpartícules called:

Protons: they are in the nucleus and have a positive charge.

Neutrons: they are in the nucleus and have no electrical charge (neutral)

Electrons: they are circling around the nucleus and have a negative charge.

The atoms that form the chemical elements of the periodic table have the same number of protons and electrons (and thus have a neutral total electric charge).
Hydrogen is the number one because it has only one proton and one electron.
